If you have goals, creative or otherwise, and if you ever EVER fall short on achieving them, you're probably curious about whether this book might in some way help you figure out how to close the gap.I was curious about that too. The cost to find out was small, and I'm very glad I paid it. Though it's written primarily from a writer's point of view, it is a powerful tool that can be wielded by a creator of any stripe. My particular thing is engineering, specifically product design and development. Melting Chocolate Kettles is totally applicable to my work. It's also just an easy, energizing read that really inspired me to take a fresh look at things.
It's been a few months since I read it, and I've gotten a lot done in that time. I've definitely met a lot of creative goals. This book is not the only reason, but it was an important contributor. I intend to re-read it on a regular basis, to continue to learn from it and be re-energized.

I'm one of those people with lots of ideas and the desire to use my creativity but who lacks discipline on doing something. I'm a d.i.y. girl who likes sewing and baking, but I get stuck in the thinking process and let my life fill up with other distractions. Before reading Melting Chocolate Kettles, I had dreamed of starting a blog but was caught up in the details. Austin relates lots of typical excuses that get in the way of creating and gives great suggestions on how to "jump in" instead of just standing on the edge. I realized I had to stop thinking and start doing; the details work out and actually take shape in the process. This little book is to the point, humorous, and useful to anyone who has some kind of creative endeavor (s)he wants to improve.
MELTING CHOCOLATE KETTLES serves a healthy kick in the pants for all of us who mean to write, who dream of that published novel or book of poems, and who consistently wring our hands or lay awake at night bemoaning the lack of time or energy to make our dreams come true.

I love books written by people with the heart of a teacher. That kind of book is different than a "self-help" book, or a book written by a "guru". Those books are written for the purpose of making money, not actually helping people learn.
One of my favorite genres of books is that of achieving creative impact, breaking out of the self-illusioned box that perpetuates regressive patterns, and puts pressure on you to actualize. My inspiration burns red-hot in excitement for these books.
So imagine how excited I was when one of my most dear friends authored such a book. Austin Church most definitely has the heart of a teacher (in fact, he spent some time as a high school english teacher). I've read quite a few books about achieving creative impact, and "Melting Chocolate Kettles" is absolutely one of the most impressive.
The 769 Rule
Here's just one of the many things "Melting Chocolate Kettles" did for me. In the book, Austin introduces an idea called "The 769 Rule". I'll let you read about it for yourself to preserve the fun, but when I read through this section of the book, the output of my work went up 1300%! [I went from only having 1 song written, to having 13 songs written]
Now, since I mentioned that Austin is one of my dear friends, you may be inclined to think that I'm biased, and this review is simply hype. Fair enough. But before you fully draw that conclusion, let me make sure you're entirely aware of these details

* It's only $2.99. Go check your winter coat pocket. You probably just found $20.
* It's only $2.99, so if you find that it's not really doing it for you, at least you won't have buyer's remorse.
At only 59 pages and one hour time investment, it makes no sense at all if you do NOT read this book-even if there is only one single paragraph throughout the entire book that inspires you, it's worth it. And the ratio of value/impact to cost that reading this book will have on your career is monumentally profitable (seriously, my output went up 1300%). If you can't invest $2.99 in your career to potentially gain an unprecedented amount of value in return, then you're hopeless. Because this truly is risk-free.
